About this position

Northeastern University is seeking interdisciplinary postdoctoral researchers to join the SoundMind Collaboratory and the Brain Game Center for Mental Fitness and Well-being, working with Susanne Jaeggi and Aaron Seitz. The research program takes a lifespan perspective on cognitive diversity and cognitive and brain health, serving populations ranging from individuals with cognitive deficits related to disease, injury or development to neurotypical children, young adults and older adults, as well as specialist groups such as radiologists and athletes.

The group combines behavioral, psychophysical, neuropsychological, physiological, imaging, pharmacological, genetic and computational approaches. Its work also integrates in-lab research with ambulatory tools, including mobile-phone and tablet applications, to study broader and traditionally underserved or understudied populations. Projects aim to understand cognitive diversity, develop tools for measuring function, design individualized cognitive training, and share these tools with educational and research communities.

Postdoctoral researchers may contribute to perceptual learning interventions designed to improve hearing and vision and address perceptual and cognitive decline associated with aging. A second research area focuses on lifestyle interventions, including art-based interventions, mindfulness meditation, motivational interviewing, metacognitive coaching and multimodal approaches.

The role offers opportunities to investigate predictors of learning and outcomes, underlying cognitive and neurobiological mechanisms, and intervention effectiveness. Relevant methods include brain imaging, electrophysiology, genotyping, transcranial electrical stimulation, transcranial magnetic stimulation, computational modeling and machine learning.

Researchers are expected to take leading roles in project development and execution, data collection and analysis, training and supervision, laboratory management, conference dissemination, publications and grant writing. The work takes place within the broader Center for Cognitive and Brain Health, creating opportunities for collaboration with researchers using intervention-based approaches to promote cognitive and brain health and well-being across the lifespan.
