About this position
MSCA PhD opportunity in Biophysics and Neurodegenerative Diseases within the European LipAgg Doctoral Network.
The project (DC13) focuses on the structure and dynamics of protein-lipid complexes such as Aβ and IAPP, with the goal of understanding the mechanisms that trigger cellular membrane damage and contribute to diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
The doctoral journey is highly international: 24 months at the University of Calabria (Italy), 11 months at the Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences (Göttingen, Germany), and 1 month at Biofordrug (Bari, Italy).
Research methods include advanced spectroscopy techniques such as FTIR, EPR, and NMR. This is a strong fit for candidates interested in structural biology, biophysics, physical chemistry, and molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration.
Funding is provided through a 36-month full-time MSCA contract with a living allowance of about €3,821/month gross, plus a €710/month mobility allowance and a family allowance if applicable.
Eligibility requires a Master’s degree in Biophysics, Physical Chemistry, Chemistry, or Physics. Applicants must also satisfy the MSCA mobility rule: they must not have resided in Italy for more than 12 months in the last 3 years.
To apply, prepare a CV with methodological skills, a motivation letter, degree proof or expected completion, thesis if available, transcripts, and references. Deadline: 15 June 2026 (12 am CET).
