About this position
The University of Copenhagen is inviting applications for a PhD Fellow in Spatial Proteomics of Cardiac Conduction and Disease Mechanisms. This opportunity is based in the Cardiac Proteomics & Systems Biology Group, led by Professor Alicia Lundby, at the Department of Biomedical Sciences. The research focuses on mapping the heart’s conduction system at cellular resolution using advanced spatial proteomics techniques, including laser-capture microdissection and quantitative LC-MS/MS. The project aims to uncover the molecular architecture of the cardiac conduction system (CCS) and elucidate mechanisms underlying heart rate control and arrhythmogenic disease.
The successful candidate will develop and optimize spatial proteomics workflows for cardiac tissue, perform quantitative proteomics and data analysis, and collaborate on multi-omics investigations of cardiac disease mechanisms. The position offers comprehensive training in proteomics, multi-omics integration, and large-scale data analysis, with access to state-of-the-art laboratories and core facilities at the Maersk Tower, University of Copenhagen.
Applicants should hold an M.Sc. degree in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field, with a strong academic record and research experience. Hands-on expertise in mass spectrometry-based proteomics, proteomics data processing, laser capture microdissection, image-guided tissue analysis, fluorescent microscopy, or cardiac physiology is highly desirable. Strong English communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are essential. The master's degree must be equivalent to a Danish master's degree, and applicants may be required to provide an official assessment of their degree.
The PhD position is fully funded, with a starting salary of approximately 31,200 DKK/month plus pension, in accordance with Danish state agreements. Employment is full-time for three years. The application deadline is 8 January 2026, and the suggested start date is between March and September 2026.
To apply, candidates must submit an online application via the University of Copenhagen job portal, including a cover letter, CV, relevant diplomas (with English translation if necessary), transcript of records, list of publications, and contact details for two referees. For further information, applicants may contact Professor Alicia Lundby at [email protected] or visit the group’s website at www.lundbylab.com.
This position is ideal for candidates interested in spatial proteomics, cardiac biology, systems biology, and advanced biomedical research. The University of Copenhagen offers a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment dedicated to academic excellence and innovation in the life sciences.
