About this position

Chalmers University of Technology is inviting applications for a doctoral student position in adaptive antenna systems for 6G wireless networks within the Antenna Systems group in the Division of Communications, Antennas and Optical Networks, Department of Electrical Engineering, in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The project is part of an SSF-funded Sweden–Taiwan collaborative research project on antenna systems for 6G wireless networks. The research focuses on adaptive, interference-resilient antenna design for energy-efficient and scalable spectrum sharing in the centimetre-wave / FR3 range (6–24 GHz). Topics include antenna hardware design, hybrid analogue–digital beamforming, over-the-air validation, and the interaction between antenna systems and active electronics.

The position is supervised by Professor Marianna Ivashina. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with Swedish and Taiwanese academic partners and industrial stakeholders connected to future wireless infrastructure, RF systems, and non-terrestrial networks.

Eligibility highlights: a completed master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics/Engineering Physics, or a closely related field; documented knowledge of antenna theory, microwave/RF systems, and mathematical modelling/numerical analysis; strong English communication skills; programming/technical computing experience (MATLAB, Python, or similar). Experience with CST, HFSS, ADS, RF measurements, prototyping, SDR/RFSoC, or signal processing is advantageous.

Funding: the doctoral student position is fully funded from the start. The employment is full-time and fixed-term, normally four years with possible extension up to five years if departmental duties are included. Salary follows Chalmers’ doctoral salary agreement (35,725 SEK/month from May 1, 2026).
