About this position

PhD Research Opportunities in Computational Fluid Dynamics, GPU Computing and Numerical Methods

Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU) in Gandhinagar, India, invites applications for the January 2027 PhD admission cycle in the RudhLab research group. The opportunity is supervised by Dr. Anirudh Kulkarni in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

The research focuses on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), advanced numerical methods, high-performance scientific computing, and the development of simulation software for fluid-flow and heat-transfer problems. Research directions include GPU-accelerated CFD, CUDA-based solver development, Lattice Boltzmann Methods (LBM), finite-volume methods, advanced discretization schemes, parallel algorithms, and scalable simulations.

Additional topics include multiphase flows and interfacial physics, droplet impact, bubble dynamics, free-surface flows, adaptive mesh refinement, phase change, turbulence, flow instabilities, vortex shedding, wake dynamics, direct numerical simulation, turbulence modeling, flow control, natural and mixed convection, conjugate heat transfer, porous-media transport, and thermal-fluid energy systems. Interdisciplinary work involving physics-informed machine learning, computational mathematics, and scientific software engineering is also encouraged.

Applicants are welcomed from Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computational Science, and related disciplines. Desirable preparation includes fluid mechanics, numerical methods, heat transfer, applied mathematics, and programming with C/C++, Python, CUDA, or similar languages. Prior CUDA or CFD-solver development experience is advantageous but not required.

The application deadline is 23 November 2026. Selection includes a written aptitude test and personal interview, subject to applicable exemptions. Candidates must satisfy PDEU's official PhD admission regulations. Apply through the official admissions portal and review the RudhLab website before applying. Candidates may also contact the research group with a brief CV and research-interest statement.
