About this position
The Computational Multiphase Transport Laboratory (CMTL) at Worcester Polytechnic Institute invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate position focused on computational multiphase flow.
The project centers on high-fidelity modeling of droplet dynamics and droplet interactions with other droplets and solid surfaces, with an emphasis on aircraft and wind-turbine icing. The researcher will study processes such as droplet impact, deformation, coalescence, breakup, splashing, heat transfer, phase change and freezing, as well as the behavior of multiple droplets on cold surfaces.
The work combines advanced numerical method development for interfacial multiphase flows with physical mechanism analysis and comparison against experimental data. The postdoc will contribute to model development, run large-scale simulations, and collaborate with experimental and computational researchers in a multidisciplinary environment.
This position is based in the Mechanical & Materials Engineering division at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and is housed within CMTL, a research lab dedicated to computational transport phenomena.

What's required
A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computational Science, or a closely related field is required. Applicants should have a strong background in computational fluid dynamics and multiphase/interfacial flows, experience with numerical modeling of droplets, free-surface flows, phase change, heat transfer, or related transport phenomena, strong programming and scientific computing skills, and a record of peer-reviewed publications with the ability to conduct independent research and communicate results effectively. Experience with OpenFOAM and/or Basilisk is highly desirable, and experience with interface-capturing methods such as VOF, adaptive mesh refinement, high-performance computing, or simulations involving droplet impact and solidification/freezing would be advantageous.
