About this position

PhD position in Geoscience Education Research at the University of Copenhagen, within the Department of Science Education and the Novo Nordisk Foundation Centre for University Science Education (NNF-USE).

The project is part of the work package “Disciplinary Writing Practices in the AI Era: Enhancing Learning in the Geosciences” and focuses on how disciplinary writing supports learning, teaching, and knowledge production in university geoscience education. The research examines how students and faculty experience writing in geology/geoscience, how writing practices may change with generative AI and large language models, and what this means for authorship, expertise, disciplinary norms, and student learning.

Possible methods include literature review, surveys, classroom observations, interviews, student focus groups, teaching experiments, and implementation studies. The project is flexible and can be shaped around the candidate’s background and interests, but it must be relevant to university geoscience education in a Danish context.

Eligibility highlights: a master’s degree by 1 April 2027 in geoscience or geoscience education, plus a bachelor’s degree in geoscience; strong English; interest in collaborative research; geology background and qualitative methods are advantageous; Danish language skills are a plus.

Funding: three-year full-time PhD fellowship with salary according to Danish academic agreements. Enrolment in the PhD School at the Faculty of SCIENCE is required.

Deadline: 29 November 2026, 23:59 GMT+1. Interviews are expected in January 2027. Apply online with a motivation letter, six-page project proposal using the provided template, CV, diplomas/transcripts, and publication list if available.
