Karolinska Institutet in Solna, Sweden, is offering a fully funded PhD position in the research group of Assistant Professor Bennie Lemmens, focusing on DNA replication mechanisms and cancer genetics. The Lemmens group, established in 2021, is part of the Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) and the Genome Biology division at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics. The lab investigates how human cells copy DNA, maintain genome stability, and applies this knowledge to design better, more selective anti-cancer treatments.

The PhD project centers on defining how human cells initiate DNA replication and discovering new strategies to improve cancer care. The research involves creating human cell models using advanced protein depletion and CRISPR-based genome modification techniques, studied with cutting-edge imaging and single-cell analysis platforms. The student will gain hands-on experience in cell culture, RNAi, CRISPR-editing, immunofluorescence microscopy, and both fixed and live-cell imaging. Automated microscopy and image analysis will be key tools for analyzing different cell types and treatments.
