About this position

Chalmers University of Technology invites applications for a fully funded PhD position in the Materials Chemistry of Doped Organic Semiconductors, as part of the European Marie Sklodowska-Curie training network FADOS (Fundamentals and Applications of Doped Organic Semiconductors). The successful candidate will join the research group of Professor Christian Müller at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, working in a dynamic and international environment in Gothenburg, Sweden.

FADOS is a prestigious consortium comprising 8 universities, 4 research institutes, and 4 companies across the EU, UK, and Switzerland, aiming to advance the targeted modification of semiconductor properties through doping. The network provides a unique opportunity to collaborate with 17 doctoral students in 16 research groups, participate in seven network-wide events, and undertake secondments in Spain, Germany, and the US. The project focuses on developing fundamental understanding and innovative fabrication processes to address challenges in organic electronic devices and enable new, sustainable functionalities.

The Müller Research Group specializes in the physical chemistry and materials science of organic semiconductors, polymer blends, and composites, with applications in wearable electronics and energy technologies. As a doctoral student, your research will investigate how doping gradients can be used for spatial modulation of the electrical and mechanical properties of organic semiconductors. You will collaborate closely with fellow doctoral students and postdocs at Chalmers and within the FADOS network.

Applicants should hold (or be completing) a Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science, with experience in organic electronics and/or polymer science. Strong collaboration skills and proficiency in English (oral and written) are essential. Candidates must be in the first four years of their research career and not have been awarded a doctoral degree. The mobility rule applies: applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity in Sweden for more than 12 months in the three years prior to recruitment. The position requires willingness and ability to travel within the Schengen region, the UK, and the US.

The doctoral position is fully funded for four years, with a starting salary of 34,550 SEK per month (approx. 3,100 Euros), including living, mobility, and family allowances in accordance with MSCA regulations. Doctoral students at Chalmers are employees and enjoy comprehensive benefits, including access to Swedish language courses, generous parental leave, subsidized day care, free schools, and healthcare. Chalmers is committed to gender equality and excellence, actively supporting initiatives such as the GENIE project.

To apply, prepare your application in English and attach all required documents as PDF files (maximum 40 MB each). Required documents include your CV, personal letter, motivation statement, bachelor’s and master’s thesis (if available), and transcripts. Applications must be submitted via the online application form; incomplete applications and those sent by email will not be considered. The deadline for applications is 6 January 2026. For further information, contact Professor Christian Müller at [email protected].

This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading research group and international network, develop your scientific and professional skills, and contribute to cutting-edge research in materials chemistry and organic electronics.
