About this position
Are you passionate about next-generation laser and photonics technologies? The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) Electro invites applications for a fully funded PhD position focused on advanced ultrafast lasers and nanophotonic technologies. The research will center on novel dual-comb laser technology, laser and comb stabilization, and precision metrology applications, with opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration both within DTU and with international academic and industrial partners.
As a PhD student, you will contribute to strengthening the department’s expertise in lasers and frequency combs, developing innovative solutions for sustainable photonic technologies with societal impact. Your work will include laser design and development, experimental nonlinear optics, laser and frequency-comb characterization, dual-comb applications, numerical simulations, and data analysis. You will also play a key role in disseminating research results and supervising BSc and MSc student projects related to your research.
DTU Electro is a leading research environment with over 300 employees specializing in electrical and photonics engineering. The department’s research covers nanophotonics, lasers, quantum photonics, optical sensors, LEDs, photovoltaics, ultra-high speed optical transmission systems, bio-photonics, acoustics, power electronics, robotics, and autonomous systems. DTU is globally recognized for research excellence, innovation, and scientific advice, and offers a dynamic, international, and inclusive working environment.
Eligibility: Applicants must hold a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent in physics, photonics, or a related field, with excellent academic performance. A background in lasers and nonlinear optics is advantageous. Strong written and oral English skills are required. Candidates may apply before obtaining their master's degree but must have it before starting the position. All applicants are subject to academic approval and must meet DTU’s PhD enrolment requirements.
Funding: The position is fully funded for three years, with salary and appointment based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
Application deadline: 10 May 2026 (23:59 Danish time). The expected start date is 1 September 2026 or as agreed.
How to apply: Submit your complete application online via the provided link. Applications must include a cover letter, CV, grade transcripts, diplomas, and contact details of two referees, all in English and combined into a single PDF. Late applications will not be considered.
