About this position

The University of Gothenburg’s Sahlgrenska Academy is offering multiple PhD positions in Medical Science, with research projects spanning viral immunology, cancer microenvironment, lung cancer metabolism, pancreatic cancer, and mitochondrial biogenesis. These positions are based at the Institute of Biomedicine and involve collaboration with leading research groups and supervisors, including Professors Davide Angeletti, Göran Landberg, Anders Ståhlberg, Elinor Bexe Lindskog, Per Lindahl, Anna Martner, and Martin Ott.

Project topics include: (1) Broadly neutralizing antibodies for therapeutic use against Influenza A virus, focusing on antibody engineering and mucosal immunology; (2) Patient-based model systems for studying the tumor microenvironment in cancer development and progression, utilizing advanced ex vivo models and bioinformatics; (3) Targeting lung cancer metabolism through precision nutrition and glutathione depletion, with emphasis on cancer metabolism and therapeutic vulnerabilities; (4) Role of NOX2-derived reactive oxygen species in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, investigating tumor microenvironment and immune interactions; (5) Structural and functional analyses of mitochondrial biogenesis by cryo-EM, exploring mitochondrial translation and protein biogenesis.

All positions are fully funded doctoral employments, with salaries set individually according to university agreements. The duration is four years full-time, with possible departmental duties extending the period. Applicants must have a second-cycle degree or equivalent, proof of English proficiency (English B/6 or equivalent), and relevant academic background. Experience in molecular biology, immunology, cell culture, flow cytometry, bioinformatics, or related fields is advantageous. Some projects require willingness to work with laboratory animals. Personal suitability and collaborative skills are highly valued.

Applications must be submitted via the University of Gothenburg’s recruitment portal by 2026-02-23. Required documents include a personal letter, CV, diploma and transcripts, and proof of English proficiency. International applicants should provide additional documentation for degree verification. For more information, visit the university’s doctoral studies pages or contact the respective project supervisors.

These positions offer the opportunity to work in a dynamic, international research environment with access to cutting-edge methodologies and collaborative networks. The Sahlgrenska Academy values diversity and equal opportunities, and provides support for international applicants relocating to Gothenburg.
