About this position
The University of Agder in Grimstad, Norway, invites applications for a full-time, three-year PhD Research Fellow position in Civil and Structural Engineering. The research concerns the design and analysis of interconnected floating solar arrays for offshore environments, as part of the EU HelioSea project.
The successful candidate will investigate multibody floating solar systems composed of lightweight floats, mechanical connectors, and mooring systems. Research activities include analytical modelling and numerical analysis of multibody hydrodynamics, with possible work in structural analysis. The project may also address offshore environmental conditions, systems integration, co-location with other marine renewable energy devices, and related techno-economic considerations.
Applicants should hold a master's degree in Marine Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Relevant knowledge includes marine hydrodynamics, structural dynamics, physics-based simulation of marine structures, stochastic analysis, and design optimization. Strong analytical and programming skills, offshore-structure experience, and research publications are desirable. English proficiency is required unless the applicant qualifies for an exemption.
The position offers a gross annual salary of NOK 550,800, pension membership, professional development, and a supportive international research environment. Applications must include academic transcripts, a CV, up to 10 selected publications or R&D projects, and a two-page research project description. The application deadline is 1 December 2026.
