This full-time, temporary position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to academic research and teaching in the field of special needs education, with a particular focus on orthopedagogical assessment, action planning, and disability studies.
At least 70% of your assignment will be dedicated to academic research, while the remainder involves assisting in teaching activities at both Bachelor’s and Master’s levels. You will be involved in courses such as ‘Orthopedagogical practice: interventions and methods’ and ‘Placement and training’, and will provide guidance to Master’s and doctoral students in their exercises, work placements, and dissertations. The position is ideal for candidates who are passionate about coaching students and advancing research in clinical special needs education.

If your degree was awarded outside the European Union, you must submit a certificate of equivalence (NARIC). Candidates should have demonstrated research experience in orthopedagogical assessment and action planning, and a record of promising research during their doctorate. A strong interest in student coaching and relevant scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals are highly valued. For foreign diplomas not in Dutch, French, German, or English, a translation is required.
The appointment is for three years, with the possibility of renewal for up to three additional years upon positive evaluation. Remuneration is according to salary scale AAP5, and Ghent University offers a comprehensive benefits package, including 36 days of paid leave, training opportunities, bicycle commuting reimbursement, and ecocheques. The position will start on 1 February 2026 at the earliest.
To apply, submit your application online via the Ghent University e-recruitment system before the deadline of 16 December 2025.
