About this position
Postdoc opportunity at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Initiative on Innovation in Delft Engineering Education (IDEE), focused on the transition from secondary education to higher education.
This postdoctoral project sits within TU Delft’s Teaching Academy and the cross-faculty IDEE programme, which supports innovation and research in engineering education. The project addresses a key student experience question: how can the university best support students as they move from high school into higher education, and what does a truly successful transition look like?
The successful candidate will investigate student success from an integrated perspective, connecting study progress, well-being, and competency development. Using design-based research, the project will develop, implement, and evaluate new approaches that help students thrive during this critical period. Possible research directions include defining successful transition, identifying key success factors, evaluating evidence-based practices, and designing new support practices.
You will work in an interdisciplinary IDEE transition team with members from all TU Delft faculties and educational services, alongside a postdoc and a PhD candidate. The role is connected to the Science and Engineering Education (SEEd) section in the Faculty of Applied Sciences, giving you a strong academic home in a group active in STEM education research across primary, secondary, and tertiary levels.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD degree is required, ideally in Educational Studies, Cognitive Psychology, or a related social science, with a strong interest in engineering education. Experience with educational design-based research is an advantage. Familiarity with secondary and higher education systems, especially the Dutch context, is also beneficial.
Funding and conditions: the post is for 1 year, with a possible extension, and involves 36–40 hours per week. Salary and benefits follow the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. TU Delft also offers pension, leave arrangements, training opportunities, and relocation support.
How to apply: submit your application online by 29 November 2026 through the AcademicTransfer application link. Upload a CV and a motivational letter of up to 600 words. Shortlisted candidates will later be asked for the contact details of two referees.
