About this position
TU Delft is offering a postdoc position in the AmmoniaDrive project on ammonia-fuelled SOFC-ICE power, propulsion and energy system ship integration. The work is based at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands and focuses on how ammonia can be converted into useful mechanical or electric power on board ships without sacrificing range, speed, or safety.
The project addresses major challenges in marine engineering, mechanical engineering, and zero-emission shipping. The selected researcher will investigate ship design and integration aspects, part-load operation in port, off-design and transient loading performance, power and energy management strategies, and compliance with safety regulations. The role also includes developing and improving modelling approaches for time-domain simulations of voyages and port operations, working with MARIN’s Zero Emission Laboratory, and sharing results with both scientific and industrial partners.
Applicants should hold a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related field. Strong English communication and writing skills are required, together with the ability to collaborate. Experience with Matlab, Simulink, GT-Power, or similar engineering software is expected. The position is especially relevant for candidates interested in propulsion systems, energy systems, ammonia as a sustainable fuel, ship integration, and maritime decarbonization.
The appointment is for 1 year, full-time at 36–40 hours per week, with salary and benefits according to the Dutch university collective agreement. Salary range: €3706–€5760. Additional benefits include pension coverage, flexible working arrangements, training opportunities, leave hours, and health-insurance discounts.
How to apply: submit your application online by 23 November 2026 using the application button. Upload a CV and motivational letter. Email applications are not accepted.
