About this position
Postdoctoral opening in the group of Florian Altermatt at the University of Zurich / Eawag in aquatic ecology, environmental DNA (eDNA), and invasive alien species (IAS). The project focuses on developing analytical pipelines and analyses to survey invasive species in aquatic systems using existing eDNA datasets.
The initial geographic focus is Central Europe/Switzerland, but the methods should be scalable across Europe and beyond. The work includes: (i) establishing reference databases for IAS metabarcoding analyses; (ii) developing end-to-end semiautomated analytical pipelines for eDNA metabarcoding; and (iii) proof-of-principle testing and application on existing aquatic eDNA datasets.
This is a 2-year postdoc position. The post explicitly encourages own contributions and ideas, with extensive intellectual freedom to shape the project. Relevant study areas include biology, environmental science, computer science, statistics, and related bioinformatics/data-analysis skills.
Deadline: August 14th.
