About this position
Chalmers University of Technology invites applications for a postdoctoral position in High Resolution Imaging of Soft Materials using Electron Microscopy. The successful candidate will join the Division of Nano and Biophysics within the Department of Physics and Astronomy, working in a dynamic and innovative research group at the forefront of electron microscopy and materials science. The division combines world-class infrastructure, including access to MC2 clean rooms and the Chalmers materials analysis laboratory, with state-of-the-art electron microscopes to advance understanding of atomic structure and material properties.
The research project centers on using advanced electron microscopy techniques—imaging, diffraction, spectroscopy, and in situ studies—to correlate detailed material structure with properties. Method development for revealing specific aspects of these correlations is a key component. The position offers opportunities to collaborate internationally and contribute to both experimental and theoretical advancements in the field.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Physics or Materials Science (or equivalent foreign degree) by the time of employment decision. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are required, as well as experience in advanced electron microscopy, including imaging, spectroscopy, and in situ studies. Social skills and the ability to collaborate are expected. Teaching experience and demonstrated potential in research and education are desirable. It is highly meritorious if the doctoral degree was obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline. Experience in transmission electron microscopy is advantageous. A valid residence permit must be presented by the start date.
The postdoc will carry out advanced electron microscopy, supervise master’s and/or doctoral students, and may engage in teaching at undergraduate or master’s level. The position is meritorious for future roles in academia, industry, or the public sector. Employment is full-time for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension. Physical presence is required throughout the employment period.
Chalmers offers a dynamic and inspiring working environment in Gothenburg, Sweden, with generous employee benefits including healthcare, parental leave, subsidized day care, and free schools. The university is committed to gender balance, equality, and inclusion, and offers Swedish language courses for non-native speakers. The GENIE Initiative supports gender equality and excellence.
To apply, submit your application via the online form by June 8, 2026. Required documents include a comprehensive CV (with publication list), details of teaching and pedagogical experience, and a personal letter outlining your research background and future goals. Applications must be complete and written in English; incomplete or emailed applications will not be considered. References will be requested after the interview stage. For questions, contact Professor Eva Olsson at [email protected].
