About this position

Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, invites applications for a postdoctoral position in optical quantum networks. The university is renowned for its commitment to scientific excellence and fostering skills for a sustainable future. The successful candidate will join the Division of Communications, Antennas, and Optical Networks within the Department of Electrical Engineering, working in the Optical Networks (ON) group, which specializes in network architecture, optimization, control, and management for advanced communication infrastructures.

This project aims to advance quantum networks, focusing on the integration of flexible optical fiber communication networks to connect quantum processors. The research will emphasize switching techniques tailored for quantum applications, enabling scalable quantum information exchange among quantum nodes. The postdoc will contribute to the development of a quantum network testbed, ensuring end-to-end connectivity, resource allocation, and the preservation of quantum coherence. Responsibilities include designing and managing the testbed, developing and optimizing routing protocols for high-fidelity, low-loss quantum information exchange, and implementing resource management strategies for efficient entanglement distribution. Proof-of-concept experiments will validate network performance metrics such as latency and reliability, and research outcomes will be disseminated in major journals and conferences.

Applicants must have a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field, with specialization in quantum networks, optical networks, or photonics, awarded within three years prior to the application deadline. Essential qualifications include expertise in optical switching and routing technologies, practical knowledge of quantum communication principles, hands-on experience with optical network simulation and testbed development, and proficiency in managing optical paths and resource allocation. Candidates should demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills, independent and innovative research capabilities, a strong publication record, and the ability to work collaboratively. English language proficiency is required. Preferred qualifications include experience in entanglement distribution, error correction, and cross-disciplinary optical and quantum integration projects.

The position is full-time and temporary for two years. Chalmers offers a stimulating work environment in Gothenburg, with a strong commitment to equality and diversity, including initiatives like the GENIE project for gender equality. The university encourages applications from candidates of all backgrounds and actively works to improve gender balance.

To apply, submit your application via the online form, ensuring all documents are attached as PDF files and marked with 20260232. Required documents include a CV with publications and teaching experience, contact information for two references, a personal letter outlining your research background and goals, and attested copies of education and certificates. Incomplete applications and those sent by email will not be considered. The application deadline is 20 June, 2026. For further information, contact Dr. Rui Lin ([email protected]) or Prof. Paolo Monti ([email protected]).

Chalmers University of Technology is dedicated to advancing knowledge and technical solutions for a sustainable world, fostering innovation and collaboration with society. Founded in 1829, the university continues to uphold its motto: Avancez – forward.
