About this position

University of Twente is advertising a Postdoc position in protonic ceramic cell technology focused on Power-to-X and fuel cell applications. The work sits in the Sustainable Electrochemical Engineering and Digitalisation (SEED) lab in the Faculty of Science and Technology, within the Department of Chemical Engineering.

The project covers development, characterisation, and testing of protonic ceramic cells (PCCs) across both electrolysis and power-generation modes. A major part of the role is the development of novel pressurised PCC concepts for Power-to-X, with targets including selective electrochemical conversion of CO2 to methanol and olefins and N2 to ammonia. The postdoc will also contribute to a pressurised tubular cell test setup and work on fuel-flexible protonic ceramic fuel cells (PCFCs).

This is a hands-on experimental role for a researcher with a PhD in chemical engineering, chemistry, applied physics, or a related field. Strong experience in high-temperature electrochemistry is required, especially electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), i-V testing, and gas analysis (MS, GC). Experience with SEM-EDX, XRD, Raman, and/or DRIFTS is also expected. The group values independent working, teamwork, and willingness to mentor PhD, Master, and Bachelor students.

The appointment is for 24 months full-time. Salary is €4,241–€5,538 gross per month depending on experience and qualifications, plus Dutch university benefits such as holiday allowance, year-end bonus, pension, and campus sports access.

Deadline: 2026-07-19. Applicants should submit a 1-page motivation letter, a detailed CV including at least two references, and a half-page summary of prior research most relevant to the position. Contact person: Dr. Aayan Banerjee ().
