About this position
The School of Animal Sciences at Virginia Tech is seeking a researcher at the postdoctoral associate or research assistant professor level to build a program in muscle growth biology. The position is based in Blacksburg, Virginia, and sits within Virginia Tech’s broader meat science and muscle biology environment.
The successful candidate will develop research focused on skeletal muscle biology and animal growth, with possible emphasis on hormonal, cellular, molecular, metabolic, physiological, and genetic mechanisms that regulate whole-body growth, skeletal muscle growth and development, muscle metabolism, and biological processes affecting meat production and quality. The role is intended to support both collaborative work with faculty in the School of Animal Sciences and the development of an increasingly independent scholarly program.
Responsibilities include designing and conducting research, analyzing and interpreting data, preparing manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication, presenting at scientific meetings, and contributing to competitive external research proposals. The appointee may also help mentor undergraduate and graduate students, support the training of other research personnel, and, depending on appointment level and experience, contribute to teaching in muscle biology, animal growth, or related areas.
The position offers a research environment connected to Virginia Tech’s existing strengths in animal growth and muscle biology, with opportunities to engage with faculty, students, industry partners, outreach activities, and national and international research collaborations.
