About this position
Postdoctoral Fellow opportunity at The University of Hong Kong, in the Department of Microbiology, School of Clinical Medicine. This is a primarily computational/dry-lab position that works closely with a wet-lab team on emerging infectious diseases, with research focused on virus-host interaction, pathogenic determinants, and/or virus evolution.
The successful candidate will contribute to projects using bioinformatics, multi-omics analysis, single-cell transcriptomics (e.g., scRNA-seq), and spatial transcriptomics to study cellular heterogeneity, host–pathogen interactions, and immune responses. Candidates with a hybrid background combining computational skills and hands-on molecular/virology experience are especially encouraged, though strong pure computational biologists are also welcome.
Eligibility highlights include a Ph.D. in Virology, Immunology, Microbiology, Pathogen Biology, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field; a strong publication record; proficiency in at least one programming language (R, Python, C, or C++); and strong English communication skills. The role also involves independently leading research projects, writing manuscripts, assisting with grant applications, and co-supervising junior researchers and graduate students.
Funding and benefits: full-time appointment for two to three years, with possible renewal and promotion depending on funding and performance. A competitive salary is offered, along with annual leave and medical benefits.
Deadline: applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until 2027-03-31 or until the post is filled, whichever is earlier. Apply online and upload a CV, two academic reference letters, and supporting documents including transcripts, publication list, research experience, and representative outputs.
