About this position
The University of Hong Kong is inviting applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Microbiology, School of Clinical Medicine. The appointment is expected to begin as soon as possible and will run for two to three years, with possible renewal and promotion subject to funding and satisfactory performance.
This is primarily a computational/dry-lab position within a multidisciplinary team studying emerging infectious diseases. Research themes include virus–host interactions, pathogenic determinants, virus evolution, cellular heterogeneity and immune responses. The successful candidate will work closely with wet-lab researchers and may lead projects, prepare manuscripts, assist with grant applications, and co-supervise junior researchers and graduate students.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in virology, immunology, microbiology, pathogen biology, bioinformatics, computational biology, mathematics, computer science or a related field. Strong programming skills in R, Python, C or C++ and experience with bioinformatic platforms are required. Expertise in multi-omics, single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics is particularly valued. Candidates with combined computational and molecular or virology experience are encouraged, while pure computational biologists are also eligible.
The position offers a competitive salary based on qualifications and experience, annual leave and medical benefits. Applications should include a CV, two academic reference letters, and relevant supporting documents. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until 31 March 2027, or until the position is filled. Enquiries may be directed to Professor Hin Chu at [email protected].
