About this position
The Australian National University (ANU) is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow for a fixed-term appointment of up to two years in the Research School of Biology, Canberra, Australia.
The position supports an NHMRC Ideas Grant project investigating a delivery system for releasing therapeutics in the gut to prevent urinary tract infections. The research will combine mouse experimentation, gut and infection biology, shotgun metagenomics using long-read Nanopore sequencing, metagenome-assembled genome workflows, metagenome classification, taxonomic comparisons and RNA-seq/transcriptomic analyses.
The successful fellow will work with Dr Denisse Leyton, Dr Furlong and Professor Schwessinger, and will help meet project milestones while training and mentoring two to three Honours and/or PhD students and supervising undergraduate students on related projects.
Applicants should have demonstrable experience with mouse models of human disease. Experience in Nanopore metagenomics, metagenome-assembled genome synthesis, metagenome analysis, taxonomic comparisons or transcriptomics is advantageous but not essential. Strong interpersonal skills, initiative, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are also expected.
The appointment is classified as Academic Level A and offers $91,546–$114,906 per annum plus 17% superannuation. Applicants should submit a two-page response to the selection criteria, a current CV with at least three referees, and links to two recently published papers accompanied by brief explanations of why they found the work compelling.
