About this position

Postdoctoral position in exposure to and impacts of extreme weather events at Uppsala University, Sweden.

This is a postdoc opening in climate-related research focused on exposure to and impacts of extreme climate/extreme weather events. The successful candidate will work in the Department of Earth Sciences, contributing to an EU project on the compilation and attribution of extreme weather events and their impacts, and will be part of the Swedish Centre for Impacts of Climate Extremes (climes).

Research focus: data collection and analysis of exposure to and effects of extreme climate events in the mid-latitudes, including heatwaves, cold spells, storms, and droughts. The goal is to link physical events with exposure and impacts in a harmonized database. The role involves collaboration with international research networks and centres, and travel nationally and internationally.

Eligibility: a PhD in climate science, meteorology, natural hazards, physics, applied mathematics, statistics, data science, or a related discipline (or equivalent foreign degree). The PhD must be completed by the time of the employment decision. Candidates who obtained the PhD within the last three years before the deadline are primarily considered. Strong independence, initiative, self-drive, excellent English communication, and a publication record in leading international journals are expected. Experience with large climate datasets and extreme weather impacts is a merit.

Employment details: temporary full-time position for 2 years, starting 1 November 2026 or as agreed. Salary is individual. Teaching/supervising duties up to 20% may be possible on a voluntary basis.

Application deadline: 8 June 2026.

How to apply: apply via Uppsala University’s recruitment system and answer the application questions instead of submitting a cover letter. Further details and the application form are available in the job posting.
