Meteorology, Climate Hazards and Society

Uppsala University is recruiting an Assistant Professor in Meteorology with a specialization in Climate Hazards and Society, based in the Department of Earth Sciences (LUVAL) and embedded in the Swedish Centre for Impacts of Climate Extremes (climes). The position is part of the MISTRA Environmental Research Leaders programme and includes a start-up package with a fully funded PhD and a fully funded postdoc. The research focus is on linking physical drivers of climate hazards (such as heatwaves, droughts, floods, storms, wildfires) with societal processes that shape risk, cascading impacts, and preparedness. The role involves building a research program that integrates climate science, meteorology, hydrology, natural hazards, and societal impacts, with both theoretical and applied approaches welcome. Duties include teaching in master's programs in meteorology, climate, and earth sciences, supervising theses, and engaging with non-academic actors. Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field obtained within the last seven years, research and teaching expertise, and the ability to teach in Swedish or English. The position is a six-year tenure-track appointment with the possibility of promotion to Associate Professor. The application deadline is November 7, 2025. For more information, contact Professor Gabriele Messori or Head of Department Anna Rutgersson. Applications should be submitted through Uppsala University's recruitment system, referencing UFV-PA 2025/2639.
