About this position

This postdoctoral opportunity is based in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano and is linked to the research programme “Scalable Fabrication of Multifunctional Slippery Liquid-Infused Porous Metal Surfaces with Hierarchical Porosity Using Cold Spray.”

The project aims to develop metallic porous surfaces infused with lubricating liquids, known as Slippery Liquid-Infused Porous Surfaces (SLIPS), using Cold Spray technology. The selected researcher will investigate innovative strategies for producing porous deposits, including the optimisation of process parameters and the use of pore-forming agents and erosive particles. The resulting deposits will then be functionalised and infused with lubricants to create SLIPS with hierarchical porosity.

A key part of the work is the microstructural and mechanical characterisation of the produced materials, together with the assessment of their performance in different environmental conditions. The activity sits at the intersection of manufacturing, surface engineering, and porous metallic materials, with a clear applied research profile focused on scalable fabrication routes and multifunctional surfaces.

In addition to research, the postdoctoral researcher will contribute to teaching support and third-mission activities by presenting project concepts, methods, and outcomes to undergraduate and master’s students through lectures, seminars, and laboratory activities. The role is therefore embedded in an academic environment that combines research, education, and dissemination around cold spray processing and engineered surfaces.

The position is part of a funded research programme at Politecnico di Milano and is offered as a 24-month postdoctoral contract.

Funding details
