About this position
The Kumar Lab in the Department of Otolaryngology at Washington University in St. Louis is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for an NIH-funded program on the cortical mechanisms of hearing difficulty after noise-induced hearing loss.
The project asks how cortical cellular and circuit processes adapt after hearing loss and how those adaptations contribute to impaired auditory perception, especially in noisy environments. The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary neuroscience setting that brings together systems neuroscience, genetics, pharmacology, and computational approaches.
The lab uses a broad experimental toolkit, including in vivo two-photon imaging of identified neuronal populations in awake mice, auditory behavioral assays, ex vivo brain-slice imaging and electrophysiology, chemogenetic and optogenetic circuit manipulation, inducible conditional knockout mouse models, and pharmacological interventions.
This is a hands-on research role for a postdoctoral associate who will investigate neural plasticity in cortical circuits associated with hearing deficits, with access to advanced imaging, electrophysiology, and computational resources in a collaborative academic environment.
