About this position
Washington University in St. Louis is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Auditory Neuroscience to join the Kumar Lab in the Department of Otolaryngology at the Washington University Medical Campus in St. Louis, Missouri, United States.
The NIH-funded research program investigates how cortical cellular and circuit mechanisms contribute to hearing difficulties in noisy environments after noise-induced hearing loss. The lab studies how cortical circuits adapt to hearing loss and produce impaired auditory perception, using systems neuroscience, genetics, pharmacology, and computational approaches.
Research methods include in vivo two-photon imaging of identified neuronal populations in awake mice, auditory behavioral assays, ex vivo brain-slice imaging and electrophysiology, chemogenetic and optogenetic circuit manipulation, inducible conditional knockout mouse models, pharmacological interventions, image analysis, and neural circuit modeling.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree. Experience in at least two relevant areas—such as two-photon imaging, brain-slice electrophysiology, stereotactic surgery, computational neuroscience, image analysis, or neural circuit modeling—is preferred. The role involves laboratory work, biological and chemical hazard precautions, and standard care for research animals.
Base pay is commensurate with experience, with eligibility for Washington University’s comprehensive employee benefits package. Applications are submitted online through the university’s Workday careers portal; no deadline is provided.
