About this position

The University of Kent is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral Research Associate to join Dr. Christopher Mulligan's multidisciplinary team. The position is part of a BBSRC-funded project focused on elucidating the molecular mechanisms and physiological impact of bacterial lipid transport processes, which are promising targets for novel antimicrobials. The research integrates biochemical, biophysical, microbiological, and multi-omics approaches to investigate the structure, function, and physiological roles of bacterial lipid transport proteins.

As a Research Associate, you will contribute to the design and execution of research projects, conduct individual and collaborative research, gather and analyse data, and regularly report results to the research group and stakeholders. The role requires specialist expertise in protein expression and purification, biochemical protein characterisation, and experience with molecular biology techniques. Applicants should hold, or be close to completing, a PhD in a relevant field such as Biology or Biochemistry, and have proven experience in research project management and data analysis.

The University of Kent offers a collaborative and supportive working environment, with hybrid working options, 43 days' leave per year (including bank holidays and additional days for the Christmas period), an excellent pension scheme, and access to a corporate employee-funded healthcare plan. The position is based in the UK and is open to candidates with the required expertise and qualifications.

Applications must be submitted via the University of Kent's online application system. Informal enquiries can be directed to Dr. Christopher Mulligan at [email protected]. Early application is encouraged as the vacancy may close before the published deadline due to high application volume. The University values diversity and equality at all levels.

Key research areas: bacterial lipid transport, biochemistry, molecular biology, protein expression and purification, multi-omics, antimicrobial targets.
