About this position
Oak Ridge National Laboratory is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to investigate correlated and topological quantum materials within the Correlated Electron Materials Group, part of the Foundational Materials Science Section in ORNL’s Materials Science and Technology Division.
The project focuses on accelerating the discovery of antiferromagnets with spin-polarized electronic band structures, including altermagnets and p-wave magnets, as well as topological spin textures. The researcher will use neutron and x-ray scattering to characterize quantum materials and study their structural, electronic, magnetic, and topological properties.
The work will draw on concepts including quantum geometry and spin space groups, together with machine-learning-driven approaches to experimental data analysis. The researcher will contribute to a collaborative environment spanning materials synthesis, quantum transport, angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), and neutron and x-ray scattering.
Responsibilities include conducting neutron- or photon-based diffraction and spectroscopy, analyzing experimental data, collaborating with researchers across the laboratory, publishing scientific papers, and presenting findings at conferences. The appointment is based at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
