About this position
The University of Arizona is recruiting a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate I in the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Department at the Tucson Campus, United States. The postdoctoral researcher will work under the supervision of Professor Hermann Fasel.
The research focuses on high-fidelity Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) of boundary-layer stability and laminar-turbulent transition at hypersonic speeds from Mach 4 to 14. The project will examine physical mechanisms during the linear and nonlinear stages of transition, including breakdown to turbulent flow, and will investigate promising flow-control methods using DNS.
Responsibilities include conducting DNS and postprocessing simulation data, performing Linear Stability Theory calculations, assisting with undergraduate and graduate student advising, and contributing to conference and journal publications. Relevant expertise includes compressible-flow physics, high-speed flows, computational fluid dynamics, HPC platforms, programming, and CFD software such as OpenFOAM, SU2, Fluent, or US3D.
Applicants must have a PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field by the time of hire. Preferred experience includes high-performance computing and coding in C, Python, Fortran, or comparable languages. The position provides NIH-guideline salary based on experience and full benefits, including health, dental, vision, and life insurance, paid leave, holidays, and tuition-reduction benefits. Applications require a CV and cover letter and are accepted until the position is filled.
