About this position
University of Technology Sydney is advertising a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, affiliated with the Institute of Biomedical Materials and Devices. The project is funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council and focuses on pathogen–host cell interactions, including viruses and bacteria, using advanced imaging and sensing technologies.
The successful candidate will work under Professor Jiajia Zhou on research topics such as pathogen entry, bacterial persistence, host immune responses, thermodynamics of antibiotic treatment, and treatment efficacy at the single-cell and nanoscale levels. Methods mentioned include super-resolution imaging, single nanoparticle tracking, and live-cell nanothermometry.
This is a full-time fixed-term postdoctoral role for up to 15 months at the UTS Broadway Sydney campus. The salary range is $97,955 to $119,303 per annum at Academic Level A, plus 17% superannuation. The advertisement also notes that applicants must have current and valid work rights in Australia and that visa sponsorship is not available.
Eligibility highlights include a PhD in Microbiology, Immunology, Virology, Cell Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Biophysics, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related discipline; experience with pathogenic microorganisms under appropriate biosafety conditions; live-cell imaging and quantitative image analysis; microbiology/virology/immunology or host-pathogen interaction studies; mammalian cell culture, primary cells, or organoid models; and a strong publication record.
