About this position
Northeastern University's Institute for Experiential AI is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to conduct applied research at the intersection of artificial intelligence and major societal and scientific challenges. The appointment may focus on Responsible AI, Natural Language Processing and Information Retrieval, AI and Health, or AI and Life Sciences.
The Responsible AI track addresses the design, development, governance, evaluation, monitoring, and auditing of AI systems, including issues of bias and fairness. The NLP and IR track covers large language models, language understanding, entity recognition, entailment, word embeddings, and the development of next-generation search technologies.
Researchers working in AI and Health may apply artificial intelligence to healthcare informatics, movement and rehabilitation sciences, medical imaging, remote sensing, computer vision, mental health, data fusion, computational medicine, predictive analytics, neuroscience, and other health-related areas. The AI and Life Sciences track includes neural-network analysis of multi-omic data, genotype-based phenotype prediction, biological data integration, scientific programming, data analysis, and collaboration on life-sciences research.
Across the specialization areas, the fellow will prepare research for journal and conference publication, contribute to sponsored research proposals, and support project management and team-based research. The Institute for Experiential AI provides an interdisciplinary environment focused on human-machine collaboration and on developing AI-driven technologies with meaningful societal impact. The fellow will work with academic, industry, government, and other stakeholders in a diverse research community led by Professor Usama Fayyad.
The position is based at Northeastern's Boston, Massachusetts, or Portland, Maine, campus and offers a two-year renewable research appointment.
