About this position
The Institute of Nuclear Physics Polish Academy of Sciences (IFJ PAN) in Krakow, Poland, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher (Adiunkt) position in the Department of Diffractive Processes (NZ13), Division of Particle and Astroparticle Physics. This full-time, fixed-term position (up to 33 months) focuses on experimental particle physics, specifically within the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
The successful candidate will participate in the ATLAS experiment, with core responsibilities including the analysis of accelerator luminosity (instantaneous, delivered, integrated) using LUCID detector data, maintenance of the LUCID detector, and dissemination of research results through publications in leading scientific journals and presentations at seminars and international conferences. The role also involves applying for external research funding and active engagement with the department's ongoing and planned research projects.
Applicants must hold a PhD in physical sciences or a closely related discipline (chemistry, physical chemistry, or material science). Required qualifications include a strong publication record in prestigious international journals, expertise in experimental particle physics, hands-on experience with scientific research equipment and data analysis, teamwork skills, and excellent command of spoken and written English. Preferred qualifications are fluency in HEP programming tools and experience with Linux/Windows system administration.
The position offers a competitive monthly gross salary of PLN 7,250 (for PhD holders) or PLN 8,050 (for those with habilitation), with possible additional components such as length of service, ionizing radiation allowance, long-service award, annual bonus, and support under the Company Social Benefits Fund. The role is research-focused with no teaching obligations, and benefits include 36 days of annual leave, access to well-equipped research facilities (including computer farms and cloud computing infrastructure), and opportunities for collaboration with world-class experts and other research institutes.
The application deadline is May 4th, 2026. Candidates must contact the head of the NZ13 Department, Professor Janusz Chwastowski, early in the process and may be asked to deliver a seminar prior to submitting their application. Applications (including all required documents) should be sent by email to [email protected], preferably as a single PDF, .zip, or .rar file. Two referee recommendations must be sent directly by the referees to the same email address by the deadline. The selection process includes document review, interviews (June 9–11, 2026), and a presentation of the candidate’s most important achievement. The final decision will be made by the IFJ PAN Director, with results communicated by June 22nd, 2026.
