The Mosquito Virology Team at the University of Leuven (KU Leuven), based at the Rega Institute for Medical Research in Belgium, is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join their dynamic and international group. The team is part of the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Transplantation and focuses on developing innovative strategies to combat mosquito-borne viral diseases. Their interdisciplinary approach integrates molecular virology, drug discovery, and medical entomology, with recent research published in high-impact journals (see: doi: 10.1126/sciadv.adr8338; doi: 10.1371/journal.pntd.0011649; doi: 10.1128/jvi.00060-22).

This postdoctoral position is funded by the Flemish Funding Agency (FWO) and centers on identifying new host factors critical for arbovirus infection in various mosquito species using single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq). The successful candidate will work closely with a technician and a PhD student, combining expertise in virology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics to perform infection experiments, analyze scRNA-seq data, and validate host factors in both cells and mosquitoes. Responsibilities also include contributing to scientific publications and presenting findings at national and international conferences.

Applicants should possess a PhD in Sciences, Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or Bioengineering (or a related field), with proven experience in omics data analysis (single-cell/spatial transcriptomics, proteomics). Experience in mosquito rearing and studies is essential, and prior work infecting mosquitoes is advantageous. Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication, teamwork, and project management skills, as well as proficiency in English and a strong publication record emphasizing quality. The position offers a full-time contract for one year, with the possibility of extension, and a competitive remuneration package. The start date is flexible.
