About this position

Tampere University is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join the Many-Body Theory group, focusing on computational studies of quantum nuclear effects in solids. The group specializes in many-body physics and the computational investigation of solid-state phenomena, including quantum nuclear effects on electronic structure and superconductivity. The research is supported by the strong infrastructure of Tampere University and CSC – IT Center for Science, and is part of the Theory Program of the Helsinki Institute of Physics. The successful candidate will develop in-house program packages and perform computations on realistic solids using supercomputer resources. The position offers a stimulating, multidisciplinary environment with competitive staff benefits, including occupational health care, flexible working hours, sports facilities, and staff discounts. The salary is based on the Finnish University Salary System, with a typical starting salary of 3800-3900 EUR/month. The postdoctoral contract is for one to two years, with possible extension, and a six-month trial period applies. Applicants must have a PhD in physics, mathematics, or chemistry (ideally in computational condensed matter physics), strong English skills, and mandatory Python programming experience. Additional expertise in many-body quantum mechanics, program development, and Quantum ESPRESSO is advantageous. The role involves collaborative research, supervision of students, and teaching participation. Tampere is a vibrant academic hub in Finland, offering a safe and dynamic environment for research and living. Applications should be submitted online, including a CV, publication list, references, and motivation letter, all in English and PDF format. The deadline for applications is November 7, 2025. For further information, contact Dr. Ville Härkönen at [email protected].
