About this position
Karolinska Institutet is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in Dementia and Chronic Disease Research to join the Unit of Cardiovascular and Nutritional Epidemiology at the Institute of Environmental Medicine in Solna, Sweden.
The research focuses on identifying modifiable and biological determinants of dementia and other chronic diseases through large-scale longitudinal cohorts integrating questionnaire, genetic, omics, biomarker, and register-based data. Dementia will be the primary outcome. The postdoctoral researcher will work closely with Professor Susanna Larsson and contribute to national and international collaborations.
Responsibilities span the full research process, including developing research questions, literature reviews, study design, management of complex epidemiological datasets, statistical analysis, interpretation, data visualization, scientific writing, publication, and dissemination. Methods include survival analysis, Cox regression, analyses of biomarker and omics data, genetic epidemiology, genome-wide association studies, polygenic risk scores, Mendelian randomization, and potentially target trial emulation.
The position is a full-time, two-year fixed-term employment. Applicants must hold a PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related chronic-disease field, or an equivalent foreign degree, by the employment decision. Experience with Stata or R, longitudinal methods, complex cohort data, dementia or chronic disease research, and peer-reviewed publication is required. Experience with omics, biomarkers, genetic analyses, or causal inference is advantageous.
Submit a PhD certificate, complete résumé, publication list, and a one-page summary of current work in English or Swedish through the Varbi recruitment system by 17 November 2026.

Desirable experience includes omics or biomarker data, genetic data including genome-wide association studies and polygenic risk scores, and causal inference methods such as Mendelian randomization or target trial emulation. Applications must include a PhD certificate, complete résumé, publication list, and a one-page summary of current work, in English or Swedish.
