About this position
The Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences at Delft University of Technology is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher for the FlooDT project, focusing on Digital Twins for Flood-Resilient Infrastructure. This forward-looking project integrates digital twins, real-time monitoring, and risk-based decision frameworks to advance the management of infrastructure under extreme flood events. The research goes beyond traditional modeling by combining data-driven methods, sensor data, and innovative decision-making tools to create digital twins that actively support infrastructure management.
Key aspects of the position include developing one of the first integrated digital twin frameworks for flood-resilient infrastructure, combining monitoring data, modeling, and decision-making in a unified research pipeline. The successful candidate will collaborate with leading researchers and organizations, including Dr Elizabeth Lewis, Rolando Chacón, Eleni Chatzi, Theo Tryfonas, Rijkswaterstaat, Deltares, HydroTwin Engineering, Tygron Platform, and the Department for Infrastructure Ireland.
The position is based at Delft University of Technology, a globally recognized institution for engineering and technology research. The research environment is internationally leading, with strong real-world relevance and opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. The project is situated within the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, providing access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources.
Applicants should hold a PhD in civil engineering, environmental science, geosciences, or a closely related field. Experience with digital twins, data-driven methods, real-time monitoring, and risk-based decision frameworks is highly desirable. Strong analytical and programming skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in an international research environment, are preferred. Excellent communication skills in English are required.
The position is fully funded, with details on salary, benefits, and contract duration available on the official TU Delft vacancy page.
