About this position
Professor Benjamin Lawler is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to join the Advanced Combustion and Renewable Fuels Lab at Clemson University’s International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) in Greenville, South Carolina, United States.
The project focuses on engine combustion computational fluid dynamics (CFD), including simulation and analysis validated against experimental data generated by the research team or project sponsors. Validated CFD models will be used to interpret experiments and guide engine design improvements. Research areas include ethanol, methanol, dimethyl ether (DME), other alternative and renewable fuels, combustion modeling, engine heat transfer, and advanced compression-ignition or spark-ignition strategies.
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline by the start date and have prior experience in engine combustion CFD. Experience with CONVERGE CFD or OpenFOAM, alternative-fuel combustion modeling, detailed engine heat-transfer modeling, or advanced engine combustion strategies is particularly valuable.
The preferred start date is January 4, 2027, although the exact date is negotiable. The initial appointment is for one year, with possible extension subject to mutual interest and funding availability. Compensation is competitive and negotiable, with health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement options, and leave benefits subject to appointment eligibility.
To apply, email a resume and cover letter to [email protected], highlighting relevant engine combustion CFD experience. Applications remain open until the position is filled.
