About this position

A fixed-term postdoctoral researcher position is available in the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Eastern Finland in the field of humanities or theology. The appointment is designed to support early postdoctoral development after the doctorate, with a strong emphasis on building a research profile that can lead to external funding and an independent academic career.

The post is structured around a research plan with work packages and sub-goals, prepared together with a mentor and informed by the candidate’s research networks. The successful researcher will develop new research questions and plans as part of a research group, strengthen their publication record, and build national and international collaboration networks. The role also supports the creation or expansion of a research group alongside future funding applications.

The position is embedded in the university’s doctoral education reform and broader academic environment, with attention to career development both inside and outside the university. The postdoctoral researcher will be expected to contribute to the research culture of the faculty, advance their own research agenda, and may also have the opportunity to participate in teaching in their area of expertise.

The post is tied to the Philosophical Faculty and is intended to build on the researcher’s doctoral background within its humanities or theology environment. A research plan, career plan, and a period abroad are central elements of the appointment, reflecting its focus on research independence, networking, and preparation for the next stage of an academic career.
