About this position

Turku Institute for Advanced Studies (TIAS) at the University of Turku in Finland invites applications for four Postdoctoral Fellow / Postdoctoral Researcher positions starting 1 September 2027 for a three-year period.

The call is open to projects based in any discipline within TIAS’s five constituent faculties: Economics, Education, Humanities, Law, and Social Sciences. The post is especially relevant for researchers in law, public law, sociology, and related interdisciplinary areas.

TIAS Fellows are expected to carry out an internationally excellent self-designed research project, contribute to the intellectual life of the institute, attend TIAS meetings, present research, and engage in cross-disciplinary collaboration. Fellows are hosted in departments at the University of Turku and must be resident in Finland, with regular campus حضور/attendance required.

Eligibility: applicants must have completed their doctoral degree (including public defence/viva) by the end of the application period and be within five years of having passed the PhD. The selection is based on academic excellence, research plan quality, feasibility, theoretical and methodological framework, proposed outputs, and overall assessment. Applicants should also show engagement in international academic networks and explain how their project fits the host department and the University’s multidisciplinary strengths.

Funding: the positions are funded for three years. The salary follows the University of Turku salary system; the current gross salary is stated as 3,938 €/month for the postdoctoral researcher level. Teaching and other duties are limited.
