About this position
The Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science at the Rochester Institute of Technology is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to advance remote sensing science for the joint NASA/USGS Landsat mission.
The project focuses on developing remote sensing algorithms, simulation and modeling capabilities, and artificial intelligence and machine learning methods that support future Landsat goals. The selected researcher will use the Digital Imaging and Remote Sensing Image Generation (DIRSIG) model to simulate satellite observations, evaluate instrument performance, and develop science-driven analyses that can inform future sensor requirements.
This position sits at the intersection of remote sensing physics, radiative transfer modeling, computational imaging, satellite sensor design, and AI-enabled scientific analysis. The researcher will also explore how modern AI and scientific machine learning can strengthen physics-based simulation, accelerate algorithm development, and open new remote sensing science applications.
The role is embedded in a research environment that emphasizes collaboration with leading researchers in academia and government, peer-reviewed publication, research dissemination, and the development of reproducible scientific methods. It also offers opportunities to contribute to grants, mentor students, and support research laboratory activities as part of the broader imaging science community at RIT.
