About this position

Sapienza University of Rome, Department of Information Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications (DIET), is seeking a researcher for a 1-year postdoctoral position (renewable for 1 year) within ORSAN – Optical and Radio-frequency Satellite Advanced Networks, a multidisciplinary project funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) under the FISA programme.

The project focuses on satellite communications, radio-frequency (RF) links, free-space optical (FSO) links, digital communications, signal processing, and modulation design. Research tasks include comparing single-carrier and multicarrier modulation schemes, studying advanced constellations such as circular QAM and APSK, modeling propagation impairments such as atmospheric turbulence, fading, and pointing errors, and developing precoding, equalization, and synchronization strategies. Numerical evaluation of link reliability, spectral and power efficiency, and receiver complexity is also part of the work.

Applicants should have a PhD in Telecommunications Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Information Engineering, Applied Physics, Mathematics, or a related field. Candidates close to completing their PhD are also encouraged to contact the supervisors. A strong background in digital communications and/or statistical signal processing is expected, together with proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or equivalent simulation tools. Experience in satellite communications, optical wireless communications, or digital modulation is especially valuable.

The position is based at Sapienza University of Rome in Italy. The post is funded through the ORSAN project, and European residents are preferred to avoid visa issues.

Interested candidates should contact Davide Comite and Mauro Biagi by email for further information.
