About this position
The Centre d'Estudis Demogràfics (CED) is recruiting a quantitative postdoctoral researcher for the ERC-funded SINGLE project, “Understanding the Demography and Stratification of Singlehood in Europe,” based at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona campus near Barcelona.
SINGLE examines the demographic and social drivers of singlehood and its diverse consequences across Europe. The project is organized around the demography of singlehood and the stratification of singlehood, considering how context—including time, country, culture, and policy—shapes outcomes among single people. Gender, life course and aging, and class are central axes of analysis.
The postdoctoral researcher will work with comparative secondary datasets such as GGS, ESS, SHARE, EU-SILC, and time-use data, alongside an original multi-country singlehood survey. Responsibilities include co-authoring peer-reviewed research with the PI, developing independent singlehood-related studies, and contributing to theoretical and methodological innovation in the field.
A major component of the role is intellectual and scientific support for the survey. The researcher will help shape research questions, modules, and measures; collaborate with the PI, survey-methodology consultants, the survey company, and research staff; and contribute to the survey’s implementation and coordination.
The position offers participation in international conferences, workshops, and the intellectual activities of the SINGLE team and CED research community. Teaching is optional through the Barcelona Four Seasons School of Demography. The research environment combines demography, quantitative social science, comparative population research, survey development, and the study of social inequality.
