About this position
Louisiana State University is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to undertake interdisciplinary research through the Louisiana Light Source (LLS), LSU’s synchrotron facility. Working under the close supervision of Associate Professor Orhan Kizilkaya, the researcher will contribute to synchrotron-based research and the development of advanced experimental capabilities.
The position supports research across materials science, condensed matter physics, nanoscience, surface science, and chemical and electronic structure characterization. The postdoctoral researcher will conduct experiments, prepare samples, collect and analyze scientific data, interpret findings, and maintain research records. Research topics and assignments may vary according to current projects, beamline capabilities, experimental end-stations, the researcher’s expertise, and collaborative needs.
A major component of the role involves research instrumentation and methods development. The researcher may help develop, test, calibrate, align, commission, and optimize beamline components, experimental end-stations, ultra-high-vacuum systems, and associated instrumentation. Relevant experimental approaches may include vacuum ultraviolet and soft X-ray methods, photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, and other advanced characterization techniques.
The postdoctoral researcher will collaborate with LLS scientists, LSU faculty and students, and external research partners. This environment offers opportunities to support beamline-based experiments, contribute scientific expertise to interdisciplinary projects, and engage with a broad range of synchrotron applications and research methods. Research outcomes will be shared through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, technical reports, and other scholarly products.
