About this position

Tohoku University’s Advanced Institute for Materials Research (AIMR) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher (Project Assistant Professor) in the Division of Quantum Magnonics and Spintronics, Elyasi Laboratory. The project is supported by the JST ASPIRE Japan-Netherlands Joint Research Project and focuses on quantum information technology based on magnetic materials.

The research theme centers on theoretical quantum magnonics and related areas, including nonlinear quantum dynamics, spintronic quantum sensing, dissipative quantum systems, and quantum transport. The project aims to build the theoretical and experimental foundations for “standalone quantum magnonics” using magnetic materials and spintronic heterogeneous junction structures. Collaboration is expected with research groups at Tohoku University, the University of Tokyo, Delft University of Technology, Utrecht University, and the University of Groningen.

Location: Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan (Tohoku University AIMR).

Eligibility: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physics or a related field by the appointment date. Strong background in condensed matter theory, quantum many-body physics, quantum information, spintronics, or related fields is required, along with analytical and/or numerical methods for quantum systems. A strong publication record, good science communication, and the ability to work in an international collaborative environment are important. Preferred experience includes quantum optics, non-equilibrium quantum field theory, magnetism, quantum transport theory, and numerical many-body problem solving.

Funding: Full-time fixed-term appointment with an annual salary of 5–7 million yen, determined by experience and achievements under Tohoku University regulations. The contract starts for one year and may be renewed up to a maximum of four years depending on performance and project progress.
