About this position
The group of Professor Constantin Schrade in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at Louisiana State University is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher in theoretical condensed matter physics. The position sits within a young and growing research group focused on quantum materials, magnetism, and superconductivity, with strong links to experimental collaborators and the wider research activity of LSU’s Hearne Institute of Theoretical Physics.
The project centers on theoretical questions involving altermagnetic materials. The successful candidate will contribute to studies of unconventional magnetism, the microscopic theory of superconductivity, and hybrid materials, while also having room to develop related projects in these broader areas. The role combines theoretical and computational research with collaboration across theory and experiment, offering scope to publish results, present at conferences, and help mentor graduate students.
The environment is especially research-oriented and collaborative. The postdoctoral researcher will join a group that aims to shape new research directions and develop independent ideas, and will be connected to a broader LSU physics ecosystem that includes ties through Professor Jim Sauls and the DOE’s Superconducting Quantum Materials and Systems Center.
Louisiana State University is based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and the advert highlights the campus’s active physics community and proximity to a wider regional research network.

What's required
Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field is required; candidates who have completed all requirements for the doctorate except the dissertation will be considered if the degree is conferred by the employment start date. Preferred experience includes magnetism, spintronics, superconductivity, or mesoscopic transport, along with strong analytical and numerical skills. Prior experience with altermagnetism is not required. Applicants should also demonstrate curiosity, initiative, and enthusiasm for exploring new research directions. All candidates must have valid U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
How to apply
Apply through the LSU Workday job portal using the application link provided. Attach a one-page cover letter, a CV with a complete list of publications, and the names, titles, and email addresses of three research references. Official transcripts are required prior to hire.
