About this position
Louisiana State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in theoretical condensed matter physics to join Professor Constantin Schrade’s group in the Department of Physics & Astronomy in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The postdoctoral researcher will investigate theoretical questions involving altermagnetic materials. The group’s broader interests include unconventional magnetism, the microscopic theory of superconductivity, hybrid materials, quantum materials, spintronics, and related mesoscopic phenomena. The successful candidate may also develop independent projects in these research directions.
Work will combine analytical theory and computational research. The researcher will collaborate with experimental groups, publish results in peer-reviewed journals, present at conferences, and contribute to mentoring graduate students. The position offers opportunities to help shape the research agenda, develop independent ideas, co-supervise graduate students, and build an independent research profile.
The group is part of LSU’s Department of Physics & Astronomy and the Hearne Institute of Theoretical Physics, which supports research in quantum materials and quantum information science. The department also has close connections to the DOE Superconducting Quantum Materials and Systems Center through Professor Jim Sauls. The position is available from November 2026, with a flexible start date.

What's required
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field. Candidates who have completed all doctoral requirements except the dissertation may be considered if the degree is conferred by the employment start date. Preferred qualifications include experience in magnetism, spintronics, superconductivity, or mesoscopic transport, along with strong analytical and numerical skills. Prior altermagnetism experience is not required. Applicants must provide a one-page cover letter, a curriculum vitae with a complete publication list, and the names, titles, and email addresses of three research references. Official transcripts are required before hire, and candidates must have valid U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and throughout employment. Employment is contingent on a satisfactory pre-employment background check.
How to apply
Apply through the LSU Careers posting and attach a one-page cover letter, CV with complete publication list, and the names, titles, and email addresses of three references under the Resume/CV section. Contact Constantin Schrade at [email protected] with questions or to discuss research fit.
