About this position
Michigan State University’s RISE Materials Lab is recruiting 1–2 Postdoctoral Scholars to work on advanced materials for energy infrastructure and resource resilience. The group designs materials that address challenges at the intersection of materials science, chemistry, and process engineering.
Research in the lab may involve materials characterization, thermodynamic modeling, life-cycle assessment, techno-economic analysis, and machine-learning-guided materials design. The portfolio includes advanced concrete and broader materials solutions for resilient energy and resource systems.
Postdoctoral researchers will join a collaborative and vibrant group with hands-on mentoring and the opportunity to shape their own research direction. The work is suited to researchers interested in connecting fundamental materials understanding with engineering design, processing, sustainability, and infrastructure applications.
Funding details

What's required
Applicants must hold a PhD in civil engineering, environmental engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, or a closely related field. Experience with materials characterization, thermodynamic modeling, life-cycle assessment (LCA), techno-economic analysis (TEA), or machine-learning-guided materials design is advantageous but not required. Candidates able to start by early 2027 are especially encouraged to apply; applicants already in the United States may be able to start sooner.
