About this position
The Aerosol–Climate Interactions group at the University of California, Los Angeles is seeking a postdoctoral scholar in Arctic climate dynamics and climate intervention. The project examines the climate response to targeted wintertime polar cooling, with a focus on mixed-phase cloud thinning and its impacts on the Arctic and global climate system.
This research is part of a Simons Foundation-supported project. The scientific goals include understanding effects on sea ice, hydrology, AMOC-relevant ocean stratification, time of emergence, and climate variables relevant to Arctic communities. The broader group studies aerosol–radiation–cloud–climate interactions, especially the role of desert dust aerosols in cloud microphysics and Earth’s energy balance.
The position offers substantial intellectual ownership and access to UCLA and NCAR high-performance computing resources, with collaboration opportunities involving colleagues at UCLA, Scripps, and the University of Maryland. The post is well suited to researchers with interests in climate dynamics, aerosol-cloud interactions, climate modeling, and atmospheric physics.
Eligibility and timing: a summer 2026 start date is preferred. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is not required. Applications received by 2026-05-20 will receive full consideration, and applications will continue to be reviewed until the position is filled.
How to apply: Read the full job advertisement for application instructions and submit the required materials through the linked posting. The group website provides additional context about the lab’s research and publications.
